A tactics app reduced to what the tactician needs. The start, the shifts, the laylines. Nothing else.
This is the real interface, running on simulated data. Sail a beat in a shifting wind and watch the meter, the laylines and the track. Then time a start: a simulated boat sails the same sequence next to the phone, so you see what BURN, SPEED and STEADY mean on the water.
The auto tactician tacks on the headers. Switch it off and press TACK yourself to see if you can do better.
Ping the pin, start the countdown and follow the boat to the line. Turn on sound for the beeps.
The demo stacks: controls first, then the phone, then the start area and the watch.
Ping both ends of the line and start the countdown. One color band tells you what to do, readable from the corner of your eye. The beeps play even in silent mode.
A meter compares your course now with your average on the last tack. Laylines on the map and the time to the layline show how much room you have left. No instruments needed.
Like a pit stop: meters lost, lowest speed and the time back up to speed. Replay the race, or export it for a deeper look with an AI on your computer.
On many boats the iPad sits at the companionway or on the mast, where the helm and the tactician can both see it. ShiftSail on iPad is built for portrait, with bigger numbers and more map. It works in landscape too.
Waterproof cases, mounts for phone and iPad, Bluetooth GPS for a sharper start and a wind sensor for ShiftSail Pro.

The racing rules allow electronic aids, but class rules and sailing instructions can limit them. Some one-design classes allow only a timer and a compass. For those, turn on class-legal mode in the boat profile and ShiftSail shows only what your class allows. Always check your class rules and the sailing instructions.
No. ShiftSail works with the phone's own GPS and needs no account. A Bluetooth GPS gives a sharper start, and ShiftSail Pro can read a Calypso wind sensor, but neither is required.
Yes. GPS works without a mobile network. Download the map for your sailing area at home, and everything works offline on the water.
ShiftSail is built to last a race day. Below 20 % it switches to power saving: the screen dims and GPS works less between legs. For long races, keep a small power bank in the waterproof case.
Keelboats and handicap racing, such as SRS and LYS. You set your boat's type and length, and ShiftSail learns its tack angle and speed from how you sail. The start timer works in any boat.
No. Everything works on the iPhone alone. The watch and iPad are extras, and one Pro subscription covers all three.
Yes, anytime in your Apple account. The free version keeps working: start timer, start line, wind check and one boat.

ShiftSail is a racing tactics app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, developed in Sweden. It gives the tactician three answers at a glance: when to start, whether the boat is lifted or headed, and when to tack. After the race it measures every tack and lets sailors replay and analyse the race. ShiftSail works with the phone's own GPS, needs no instruments or account, and is built to be used with gloves on, in spray, in a split second.
